Why is granite good for kitchen worktops? Part 1
Granite good for kitchen worktops
When it comes to the type of stone we choose for our kitchen worktops, granite is still one of the most popular choices. But why? What makes a granite kitchen worktop a good choice? Here are a few reasons.
-
Granite is durable
Granite is a type of stone that is formed in the depths of the earth at very high temperatures. It’s a natural stone that is excavated and then cut into slabs – giant pieces of stone – which are subsequently cut and polished to a desired shape. This means it’s exceedingly hard, so household knives or pans are not likely to scratch it. Unless you are an extreme chef that uses hammers as your tool of choice, with everyday use a granite kitchen worktop should last for generations.

Granite kitchen worktops are virtually maintenance free
Really, in most cases all you need is a soft cloth and soapy water. If you are worried about the shine on your worktop, or want to protect it against stains, you may want to enquire about sealing the countertop with a protective layer of wax. At RC Coppin’s we apply a protective coating of sealant to every type of stone. This reduces its natural porosity and further helps its extraordinary durability. You can read more about it in our After Care section.
