Trends – autumn/winter 2014 part 2
Indoor season
As the nights grow longer we are tempted to spend more time inside and lovely evenings “in” require at least one cuppa of your preferred brew per night. Preparing it in a kitchen that is your favourite room in the whole house definitely adds to the experience. Here’s a bite-size summary of what’s in this season. And there is nothing cold about this winter’s trends. So put the kettle on, get a biscuit or two and enjoy all the colours this winter brings.
Scandinavian serenity
This time of year naturally brings thoughts of northern lights and Scandinavian motifs are likely to pop up again. Designers are looking for quality, reliable materials in strong, reassuring forms. But this time we are not talking about ascetic cold of winter. The bright palette they introduce is softened by elegantly crafted finishes and furnishings.
This is a time for uplifting, hear-warming brightness, so colour-wise consider nude shades, dusty natural tones and chalky pastels. If you want advice on fixtures, we suggest copper. Warm orange elements are exactly the type of luxurious touch a Scandinavian interior needs.
If you desire to exhibit a few vintage-inspired features, invest in more flamboyant finishing touches, for instance a semi bullnose or a full bevel edge of a worktop.
Visit our Granite and Marble Library to review types of stone fitting this trend perfectly, we can also suggest new arrivals:
