Trends summer 2014
The season of makeovers and kitchen revolutions is upon us. Let’s review this seasons trends and see what designers have in mind this summer. Here are our top 3.
High definition
This is a universal truth, kitchen is not a space only for cooking; as Jona Lewie said “You’ll Always Find Me in the Kitchen at Parties” – and that’s just a one example. There’s usually a corner for preparing food, then there’s one for tea-making and eating breakfast. It makes sense then that designers suggest using worktops to define the space.
What we find particularly interesting, is that they suggest not only to mix contrasting colours and textures, but to combine worktops with different depths and widths. This will definitely help you define the zones in your kitchen.
Monochromatic simplicity
This trend came from the far north; Scandinavian designers like to keep it minimal and this season they invite us to experiment with dramatic contrasts – think black and white! The rule may be simple in principle, but the effect is very intense. To make it work, we recommend to keep the lines straight and corners sharp – it’s very easy to make this design look overwhelming and heavy with too much detail. Streamlining and crispness is the way to go.
Choosing a protective worktop as a splash back, rather than going with tiles, fits this trend exceptionally well.
Lose the blues
Men’s couture and ready-to-wear collections favour all shades of blue and this colour seem to be in fashion in the world if interior design as well. And we are not talking about timid pastels – it’s the season of dark denim, courageous cobalt and sumptuous sapphire. When it comes to using blue in the kitchen this season, we need to be bold and brave.
It’s a statement. This concept is made for urban kitchens – perfect for functional, ascetic interiors. If you are a fan of industrial inspirations, go for it. Having said that, blue belongs to the cold palette – if you’re up for heating up blue space a bit, consider wooden accessories.
