Why cold stone kitchen work surfaces are so hot
Cold stone has so many advantages when it comes to cooking and baking, and can easily be nicknamed the hottest thing in the kitchen – especially during the Christmas period (which is almost upon us!). For us it is especially hot when it is one of our own stone kitchen worktops from Essex, of course.
So, how can cold stone kitchen worktop help with your cooking and/or baking skills? I will use one of our beautiful brands, Swedish Lundhs stone (available from our workshop), to demonstrate.

Super smooth surfaces give you enough space to make a mess and are super easy to clean
There are a few reasons behind Lundhs Real stone super qualities:
- It is a material of very high density, which makes it non-porous and therefore non-absorbing; this makes daily life in your kitchen that much easier, as most of the spills can be wiped away in a flash
- Its natural high density makes it also resistant to high temperatures, so much so that you can put your pans on your surface straight from the hob, without having to worry about having to use any additional mats
- It is very resistant to scratching. In fact, when you decide to do your cutting/chopping prep work directly on the surface, you are more likely to damage the knife than the stone kitchen worktop, we still would advise to use a chopping board

Baking pastry from scratch is a challenge, but with a support of a cold stone surface, it is that much easier
If you ever watched The Great British Bake Off pastry week, you have witnessed the struggles contestants every year go through making their filo pastry from scratch. If, despite that, you decide to follow their example, you realise that having a cool surface to work on can be of great help. Actually, it helps with most baking projects that require kneading, rolling, folding, cutting…

There is nothing better than a cool, smooth stone surface to do chocolate art
Swirls, twirls, butterflies, and chocolate lace collars for cakes… it all becomes just a little bit easier when you have a cool smooth surface to work on.
These, however lovely to consider, are sweet little reasons that may add to the list of advantages of getting a stone kitchen worktop. The real ones are more serious: durability (scratch resistance, heat resistance, low maintenance), variety of finishes (high gloss or matte-silk version), sustainable source and the look of your kitchen – classic, modern, avant-garde… Lundhs Real Stone ticks all these boxes and they have a fantastic history as a brand, too (but that is a topic for a whole separate blog article).
