Kitchen design trends – autumn/winter 2014 part 1

Warm front from the south

Before we dive into the long white days of winter, we still have a few golden autumn afternoons to experience.

However, gold seems to be taking back seat this autumn, leaving space for more versatile chocolate brown. Colour blocking is back, but the trick is to not to make it overwhelming and smart accessorizing seems to be the key. Interior designers show us how to make it rich, comfortable and personal – use patterns and match colours. This is how to introduce this effect to your kitchen by working with marble and granite.

Sunset on the rise

Colour blocking, even colour clashing, if you feel adventurous, and unsurprisingly promote greens and yellows this season. And the more outside temperature drops, the hotter deep scarlet become on the palettes used by trend-conscious interior designers. Perhaps this inspiration comes from nature as fashionable crimsons are often matched up with deep dark blues. This duet may be influenced by sunset, but they do make a striking pair.

Keep the tones warm and match them with naturally coloured walls and fixtures to make them stand out even more. This is a bold combination and will work well with a modern, simplistic interior. It’s easy to make it look heavy and overwhelming with too much detail and an array of complex add-ons. Keep it inviting by letting it breathe, keeping it open and giving it space. Keep the décor to a minimum, avoid clutter and all will be well.

Emperadoro marble from Caesarstone’s Classico collection fits this trend brilliantly; this deep dark chocolate shade with cream vines for added dimension is a truly luxurious option.

You may also want to consider:
Baltic green granite, a warm shade of deep forest green with drops of lighter and darker hues, not unlike autumn leaves
St Johns red granite with a surface filled with a variety of rich, dark tones
Rosa Alicante, a fiery copper orange marble with blurry white and grey veins will make a wonderful centrepiece of your kitchen

We are waiting with bated breath on what the next months will bring.

Ladies and gentlemen, winter is coming.
